Battle of Arsuf by jasonjuta Battle of Arsuf by jasonjuta
Centrefold for an article by Stephen Bennett in issue 2, volume 3 of (and ) Medieval Warfare Magazine. The Battle of Arsuf was a battle of the Third Crusade in which Richard I of England defeated Saladin in Palestine, in 1191. The image features Jacques de Avesnes in the foreground, Philippe of Dreux, the bishop of Beauvais with mace, and Count Robert II de dreux armed with a sword in the background.

Jacques d'Avesnes ? This is not far from my hometown. I didn't know some local nobles went to the Crusades. :-)

don't know why you depicted Salahdin's troops here as Persians and Turks but such outfits remind me of the unit models in a mod of a game I play.

The magazine editor, expert article writer and I worked together to ensure accuracy, but I'm afraid I can't recall specifics to discuss in more detail.
